Eastern Oregon Bed and Breakfast — The now stunning Sumpter Bed and Breakfast was built in 1900 and began its life as "Sumpter General Hospital", equipped with the latest medical appliances, an antiseptic operating room, and a day and a night house surgeon. It offered a modern, "covered" ambulance accompanied by a surgeon. It became known as one of the best and most efficient hospitals among the mining communities of Oregon.
After surviving the Great Fire of 1917, which destroyed most of the town of Sumpter, the hospital became a Masonic Temple.
The "Hospital on the Hill" withstood many ups and downs over the years, as well as the Great Depression.
The building was purchased in 1973 and was used as a private residence. It has since been turned into a beautiful and comfortable Bed and Breakfast, complete with antiques.
The Sumpter Bed & Breakfast is one of Sumpter's premier historic buildings, and is now proudly owned by Barb & Jay Phillips.
Visitors enjoy six Guest bedrooms with names such as The John Wayne Room, The Bird's Nest, The Wine Room, The Rose Room, The Den, and The Elkhorn Room.
